Botox

  www.BotoxCosmetic.com

Botox is injected beneath the skin into the targeted muscle with an ultra-fine needle. This medication temporarily blocks acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction. Once it has been injected and becomes bound at the receptor site, the force of muscle contraction will be greatly reduced. Onset of action with Botox varies from 2-8 days and can continue to improve up to two weeks. The muscle should not remain immobile and should allow for natural facial expression without being able to wrinkle the skin. Over a period of 3-6 months — the average duration is four months — the Botox releases from the receptor site and is excreted from the body via sweat. During this time, the patient will see a slow, gradual return of full muscle contractibility.

After receiving FDA approved in the U.S. in April 2009, Dysport has — much like Botox — quickly gained popularity as an effective option for reducing unwanted lines and wrinkles. Dysport also boasts an established history of safety and efficacy in other countries since 1991.

Xeomin

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxin A) is injected beneath the skin into the targeted muscle with an ultra-fine needle. Like its counterparts, Botox and Dysport, this medication acts to temporarily block acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction. Once it has been injected and becomes bound at the receptor site, the force of muscle contraction will be greatly reduced. Onset of action with Xeomin varies from 2-8 days and can continue to improve up to two weeks. The muscle should not be immobile and should allow for natural facial expression without being able to wrinkle the skin. Over a period of 3 months, the Xeomin releases from the receptor site and is excreted from the body via sweat. During this time the patient will see a slow, gradual return of full muscle contractibility.
